A Rich Tradition with a Natural Twist

Still life art has a rich history, dating back centuries as a way for artists to study form, light, and composition through carefully arranged objects. At Blooming Designs, we take this classic technique and approach it in a slightly less traditional way,  We sometimes draw inspiration from specific artists encouraging participants to push themselves out off their comfort zone. We encourage them to experiment with their use of colour and pattern using a range of techniques that may be new to them.. Our approach combines traditional skills with a relaxed, encouraging atmosphere, making still life accessible and engaging for everyone.

What to Expect from the Workshop?

Our workshops offer more than just technical guidance—they provide a peaceful, relaxed environment where you can slow down, observe mindfully, and express your unique style. You’ll leave with improved drawing or painting skills, a deeper appreciation for everyday beauty, and your own completed artwork to take home. Suitable for all levels, our Still Life workshops are perfect for anyone looking to develop artistic confidence, spark creativity, or simply enjoy a creative day hanging out with like minded people and friends inspired by the tranquil surroundings of Meon Springs.

Still Life  Simplicity?

A simple bunch of flowers arranged in a favourite vase or jug brings joy and warmth to any space; add a cherished ornament or two, and you have the perfect still life.

Artists like Emma Dunbar, Debbie George, Emily Maudey, and Jo Aylward beautifully explore the patterns, shapes, and colours found in floral subjects. Yet, it’s the Bloomsbury artists—Vanessa Bell, Roger Fry, and Duncan Grant—who remain the greatest inspiration behind this relaxed, intimate style of domestic imagery.

During the workshop you will be guided through a variety of exciting mixed media techniques, including collage, drawing, and painting.

 A Word From the Artist

“"Still life is a wonderful way to slow down and really see the beauty in everyday objects. I love how a simple arrangement of flowers and cherished items can tell a story and inspire creativity. In this workshop, my aim is to help you explore mixed media techniques in a relaxed, supportive environment—whether you’re new to art or have years of experience. Together, we’ll experiment with collage, drawing, and painting to create pieces that reflect your own unique vision, all while enjoying the simple joy of making.".”
