Drawing, Print and Collage
Exploring the creative connections between drawing, printmaking, and collage—three art forms that work wonderfully together, is a shere delight.
Whether you're just starting out or have been creating for years, these techniques open up new ways to express yourself, experiment, and develop your artistic practice.
We love the hands-on nature of drawing, the unexpected results of printmaking, and the depth that collage can bring to a piece. Our workshops combine classic and modern techniques, helping artists discover fresh ways to play with texture, pattern, and storytelling.

The Art of Drawing, Print, and Collage
Drawing is the foundation of all visual art—an intimate, immediate way to capture ideas and emotions. Printmaking, with its rich history from woodcuts to screenprinting, introduces an element of surprise and repetition, allowing artists to play with variations. Collage, pioneered by modernists like Picasso and Matisse, transforms everyday materials into striking compositions, challenging perceptions of art and meaning.
At Blooming Designs our focus is on blending these techniques in unexpected ways. We encourage artists to draw from observation and imagination and learn how to simplify images and designs. Drawing with scissors, sketching over prints, layering collaged elements, or using mono prints as a base for further work. We work on a variety of different papers and old books, to create patterned and textured papers creating beautiful still life collages.
Why Drawing, Print and Collage
-
Drawing sharpens observation skills and allows for spontaneous creativity—whether in detailed sketches or loose, expressive marks.
-
Printmaking offers a world of textures and patterns, where each pull from the press (or hand-burnished print) holds delightful unpredictability.
-
Collage is storytelling through fragments—combining papers, photographs, and found materials to create new meanings.
Together, these techniques invite playfulness and depth. They’re perfect for artists who love mixed media, enjoy tactile processes, or want to push their work in fresh directions. Whether you're drawn to the precision of ink lines, the boldness of prints, or the whimsy of layered paper, Blooming Designs invites you to explore, experiment, and let your creativity bloom.

A Word From the Artist
“There’s something deeply personal about putting pencil to paper—drawing is where every idea begins, a quiet conversation between hand and mind. Printmaking, with its mix of precision and happy accidents, teaches me to embrace imperfection, finding beauty in the unexpected. And collage? It’s where fragments become something new, where old papers, textures, and colors come together to tell stories I didn’t know were waiting to be told.”
