Transfer Printing on Fabric
Transfer printing or sublimation printing, is a versatile and popular method.
Service Description
Next promoted dates: Tuesday 17th March 2026 (Art in the Barn) Transfer printing is a versatile and popular method to transfer designs or patterns onto synthetic fabrics. The process involves the use of transfer dyes, which are painted onto paper and then transferred, using either an iron or a heat press, onto synthetic fabrics. On this workshop, you will be learning how to transfer your designs onto fabric using this method. We will be experimenting with the transfer dyes on paper initially, before transferring images onto fabric using stencils, leaves and plants creating exciting and unique patterns. By the end of the day you will have a greater understanding of the process. The workshop provides a structured environment to grasp the entire process from start to finish, including surface preparation and design transfer. This workshop will suit the creative beginners or those with some experience of the process. If you have done transfer printing before, we will encourage you to explore and expand your artistic styles, colour combinations and design possibilities, enabling you to express your creativity more effectively. The workshop will be delivered by Alison Butler. Alison has over 30 years experience as a textile designer and loves experimenting with colour and pattern in her work. We have a choice of 2 venues on our working farm in The South Downs National Park. The Stables provides a more intimate venue, whilst the adjacent Long Barn will suit larger groups.
