Still life through a window

Service Description

Join us in the heart of the Meon Valley for a colour-filled day of creativity, inspired by the beautiful still life paintings of Mary Fedden and Winifred Nicholson. You’ll begin by arranging a vibrant mix of flowers in a favourite jug or vase, perhaps adding a treasured ornament to complete your still life scene. Like Fedden and Nicholson, we’ll consider the charm of the everyday interior—framed by windows, patterned curtains, and glimpses of hills or sea—to create compositions full of personal meaning and domestic beauty. Led by Alison Butler of Blooming Designs, this workshop offers expert guidance through a range of expressive drawing and painting techniques. With over 30 years of experience as a textile designer and illustrator, Alison brings a warm, encouraging approach suitable for all levels of creative confidence. The workshop will be held in our beautiful thatched Long Barn, an inspiring and peaceful space nestled in the South Downs National Park on a working farm. Please bring an apron, newspaper, and an A3 folder to carry your work home. You may also wish to bring your favourite crayons or oil pastels. The day runs from 10am to 4pm, costs £99, and includes all tuition, materials, equipment use, and refreshments. Just bring your lunch and enjoy a relaxed, art-filled day.
