Join us in the heart of the Meon Valley in Hampshire, for a colour filled workshop, inspired by the beautiful still life paintings of Mary Fedden Arrange a mixed bunch of flowers in a favourite vase or jug, add some fruit, a cat and a favourite ornament or two and you have a beautiful still life. Fedden included all of these things along with a window setting, with curtains and views to the sea or the hills in many of her paintings. They show the personality of the painter and their domestic settings. ABOUT THE WORKSHOP You will begin by arranging a vibrant mix of flowers in a favourite jug or vase, perhaps adding a treasured ornament to complete your still life scene. Taking inspiration from Fedden , we will explore the charm of the everyday interior—framed by windows, patterned curtains and glimpses of landscape—to create compositions full of personal meaning and domestic beauty. You will be guided through a range of expressive drawing and painting techniques, exploring colour, composition and mark-making in a relaxed and supportive way. The focus is on observation, creativity and developing your own response to the still life setting. YOUR TUTOR The workshop will be led by Alison Butler of Blooming Designs. With over 30 years’ experience as a textile designer and illustrator, Alison offers expert guidance with a warm and encouraging approach suitable for all levels. THE VENUE The workshop will be held in our beautiful thatched Long Barn, an inspiring and peaceful space nestled in the South Downs National Park on a working farm. WHO IS IT FOR? This workshop is suitable for all levels, from complete beginners to those with some experience who would like to develop their drawing and painting practice. WHAT TO BRING Please bring along: An apron Newspaper An A3 folder to carry your work home Your favourite crayons or oil pastels (optional) WORKSHOP INFORMATION The day runs from 10:00am – 4:00pm and includes tuition, materials, equipment use and refreshments. Lunch: Please bring your own lunch
