Still Life Batik
Explore Still Life images with molten wax on paper and fabric
Service Description
Batik is an ancient Indonesian technique where patterns are drawn with molten wax using fine brushes or tjantings—small copper tools that create fluid lines—before coloured dyes are applied. This traditional craft has evolved across cultures, each adding its own unique style. At Blooming Designs, we bring this historic method to paper, creating original and richly textured artworks. Alison Butler, a seasoned textile designer, adapted batik for paper to produce decorative designs for the fashion industry. In this Batik workshop, you’ll create still life images through experimental samples on paper and fabric, gradually building skills before creating a larger final piece. You’ll also have the option to embellish your work with embroidery at home. Led by Alison Butler, with over 30 years creative experience, the workshop takes place in a beautiful C18th Long Barn in the South Downs National Park. Suitable for all skill levels, the workshop runs 10 am–4 pm, costs £99, and includes materials, tuition, equipment, and refreshments. Bring your lunch, apron, and creative ideas.
