Mixed Media and Wire
Explore Fashion Illustration and Design
Service Description
Explore fashion illustration and design through a playful mix of mixed media and wire. If your childhood desire to be a fashion illustrator or designer was firmly suppressed, now is the time to let it out of the box and join us for a fun and creative day exploring mark-making, pattern, collage and wire — your inner teenager will be very happy. ABOUT THE WORKSHOP We will begin the day in the C18th Long Barn developing a range of patterned papers using paints, inks and a variety of paper types. You will then use your papers to dress fashion dolls, creating unique and imaginative outcomes. You will also have the opportunity to explore soft iron wire, creating expressive fashion-inspired wire drawings of heads and figures. The day encourages experimentation, play and combining different materials to build confident, expressive work. YOUR TUTORS The workshop will be delivered by Alison Butler of Blooming Designs. With over 30 years’ experience as a textile designer and book illustrator, Alison will guide you through a range of exciting creative approaches. She will be joined by Liz Wellby, a versatile and experienced artist, teacher and maker with a particular interest in sculpture and printmaking. Following the completion of a Fine Arts degree at Loughborough University and subsequent postgraduate studies, she has spent over 30 years living and working in Derbyshire, and now works from her studio on the edge of the Peak District. THE VENUE The workshop will be held in the C18th Long Barn on our working farm in the Meon Valley, an inspirational space in the South Downs National Park. WHO IS IT FOR? This workshop is suitable for beginners and more experienced artists alike, for anyone ready to explore their inner fashion designer with a willingness to play, experiment and develop ideas. WORKSHOP INFORMATION The workshop runs from 10:00am – 4:00pm and is limited to 12 participants. The fee includes tuition, materials, equipment and refreshments throughout the day. Please bring your own lunch.
