Lino cutting and printing
Design, carve and print bold lino cuts in this relaxed, creative printmaking workshop
Service Description
Lino cutting and printing is a highly enjoyable and accessible printmaking process that can be explored at home with minimal specialist equipment. Many of us may remember creating our first lino cut during art lessons at secondary school. If you are looking to learn a new creative skill that can be picked up and put down around a busy life, this may be the ideal technique. ABOUT THE WORKSHOP Working from your chosen images or a range of ideas provided on the day, this one-day workshop will introduce you to one-colour lino cutting and printing. It offers a perfect introduction to this addictive print process, with a focus on how you can continue developing your skills at home. We will cover developing ideas into designs, safe cutting techniques and hand printing methods. Single-colour prints can also be developed further by printing onto coloured backgrounds and exploring simple collage techniques. If you have previous experience of lino cutting but would like a refresher, you may progress more quickly and develop a two-colour lino print. More experienced makers, confident with single and multi-colour lino printing, may also explore jigsaw prints. This involves dividing a lino block into sections that can be inked separately before being reassembled and printed as one image. Please let us know in advance if this is your preferred option so we can ensure suitable materials are available. YOUR TUTOR The workshop will be delivered by Liz Wellby, a versatile and experienced artist, teacher and maker with a particular interest in sculpture and printmaking. Following completion of a Fine Arts degree at Loughborough University and postgraduate studies, she has spent over 30 years living and working in Derbyshire, now based on the edge of the Peak District. THE VENUE The workshop will be held in an inspiring creative setting on our working farm in the South Downs National Park, providing a relaxed environment for focused making. WHO IS IT FOR? This workshop is suitable for beginners as well as those with some experience of lino cutting and printmaking who would like to develop their skills further. WORKSHOP INFORMATION The workshop runs from 10:00am – 4:00pm and includes tuition, materials, equipment and refreshments throughout the day. Please bring your own lunch.
