Gel Plate Printing

Create unique mono prints, using just a roller and acrylic paint.

99 British pounds
Meon Springs, Whitewool Farm

Service Description

Join us in the beautiful Meon Valley, Hampshire, for a day of monoprinting using gel plates. Gel printing is a lively and immediate method for creating unique prints, with the advantage that it does not require a printing press. Each print is one of a kind, making this a highly adaptable process that encourages experimentation. Gel printing plates look and feel like gelatin but are durable, reusable and store at room temperature. They come in a range of sizes and shapes, are easy to clean with mild soap and water or baby wipes, and are always ready for printing. They are used in conjunction with acrylic paints and require minimal equipment beyond a roller to apply paint. ABOUT THE WORKSHOP You will be guided through a range of gel plate techniques including layering, impressing, creating stencils and exploring masking techniques using leaves and flowers. You will leave with a series of monoprints that can stand alone as finished artworks or act as starting points for further creative processes such as painting or lino cutting. Your prints can also be collaged and used to create cards, gift tags or pages in creative journals and sketchbooks. YOUR TUTOR The workshop will be delivered by Alison Butler. Alison has over 30 years’ experience as a textile designer and book illustrator and loves exploring colour in her work. THE VENUE The workshop will be held at one of two venues on our working farm in the South Downs National Park. The Stables provides a more intimate setting, while the adjacent thatched Long Barn is suited to larger groups. WHO IS IT FOR? This workshop is suitable for creative beginners as well as those with some experience of different creative processes and techniques. More experienced gel plate users will also find opportunities to develop and refine their skills, focusing on creating a more curated series of prints. WHAT TO BRING Please bring along: Your lunch WORKSHOP INFORMATION The workshop includes tuition, materials and use of equipment throughout the day. Time: 10.00am – 4.00pm Lunch: Please bring your own lunch.
