Drawing and Painting - Make like Matisse
For one day only - Be like Matisse
Service Description
Next promoted date: Saturday 14th March 2026 Make like Matisse - explore drawing, collage and paint. Who doesn’t like the work of Henri Matisse? His energetic use of colour, line and pattern and the exploration of a number of creative genres, make the artist a giant amongst his contemporaries and those who came after him. Join us in the C18th Long Barn for Make like Matisse and we’ll consider his use of colour, line and pattern, as we explore a range of materials, scales and still life images. Favouring bright colours and bold simplifications, we’ll work from observation, imagination and study selected images by the C20th French artist. About the tutors: the workshop will be delivered by Alison Butler of Blooming Designs. With over 30 years experience as a textile designer and book illustrator, Alison will guide you through a range of exciting approaches. She will be joined by Liz Wellby, a versatile and experienced artist, teacher and maker, with a particular interest in sculpture and printmaking. Following the completion of a Fine Arts degree at Loughborough University and subsequent post-graduate studies, she returned to Derbyshire, where for over 30 years she has lived and worked. Liz now lives and works on the edge of the Peak District, kept company by her husband and cat called Bert. This workshop is perfect for beginners and more experienced artists alike, ready to channel their inner Matisse, with a willingness to play and experiment.
