Saturday 8th November 2025

Batik is an ancient Indonesian technique where patterns are drawn with molten wax using fine brushes or tjantings—small copper tools that create fluid lines—before coloured dyes are applied. This traditional craft has evolved across cultures, each adding its own unique style.

This workshop is specifically about Batik on Paper

You’ll explore seed heads and summer flowers through experimental samples on paper and fabric, building skills before creating a larger final piece.

You’ll also have the option to embellish your work with embroidery at home.

Led by Alison Butler, with over 30 years’ experience, the workshop takes place in a charming C18th Long Barn in the South Downs National Park. Suitable for all skill levels, the workshop runs 10 am–4 pm, costs £99, and includes materials, tuition, equipment, and refreshments. Bring your lunch, apron, and creative ideas.
