Flower Power - exploring colour
Flowers and floral displays have inspired artists and designers for several centuries, be it a single wild flower created as a botanical study or a huge bouquet of mixed blooms, capturing flowers in all stages of their lives, from bud to blousy bloom. Flowers were also incorporated in still life groups as a means of training young artists, with the many surfaces and shapes to represent.
Join us for our day of drawing, painting and printmaking in March and we’ll take time to explore line, shape, pattern and composition, whilst working at different scales and using a range of materials.
In the morning we’ll explore soft pastels and white chalk, white oil pastels with ink washes, plus watercolours, adding detail with fine brushes. After lunch, there will be the opportunity to re visit an earlier experiment, exploring a different composition, whilst focusing on a favourite process from the morning session. An alternative will be for you to begin a new piece, creating a painted mono print.
The workshop will suit makers with some experience of drawing and painting wishing to develop their skills, or if you are a more proficient draughts person, there will be lots of opportunities to challenge yourself.
The workshop will be delivered by Alison Butler and Liz Wellby. Alison has over 30 years experience as a textile designer and book illustrator, whilst Liz has over 30 years experience as teacher, tutor and a particular interest in sculpture and printmaking.
The workshop will run from 10 - 4pm and costs £99, with a maximum of 12 places, including: tuition, all materials and use of equipment; refreshments will be served throughout the day - just bring your lunch.
