Block Printed Lampshades
We have run many workshops introducing makers to block printing on paper and fabric, so it’s likely that you have a range of tea towels, tote bags and cushion covers in your home that you printed with us on previous workshops.
Are you now ready to challenge yourself and try something new?
When Alison Butler couldn’t find replacement lampshades for her favourite lamp bases, she rolled up her sleeves and made her own unique and beautiful hand printed lampshades.
Simply bring along your design ideas for images, patterns and shapes and you’ll translate these into designs suitable for repeat or random patterns, before cutting a stamp using Essdee Master Cut and printing your designs initially onto paper, to perfect your technique, and then onto fabric.
We can provide a pale cream/natural cotton fabric to print on. If you prefer to supply your own fabric for the shade, please feel free to bring this along. Fabric size needed is 100cm x 30cm minimum and a suitable fabric would be a fine curtain fabric in cotton or linen.
This workshop is suitable for makers with previous experience of block printing on fabric, wishing to further develop their printing skills and create hand printed lampshades. There will be a maximum of 10 people on this workshop.
Please bring along: an apron, ideas/drawings/images that inspire you and a large newspaper in which to transport any wet work home.
The workshop will run from 10 - 4pm and costs £99, including: tuition, some materials and use of equipment; please purchase your own drum shade kit or order through the website above. Refreshments will be served throughout the day - just bring your lunch.
