Blind embossing is an interesting creative technique. It uses the skills and materials associated with lino cutting, but without all of the mess generated when inking up a plate.
Once you have cut a design on traditional grey lino, the block is rolled through a press with lots of pressure applied, alongside a dampened, heavy weight paper. The outcome is subtle, yet very satisfying, with raised lines, shapes and patterns created where the areas on the lino were cut away. On the workshop we will cover developing ideas into designs and safe cutting techniques when using lino tools, alongside printing using a portable press. We will also explore cutting and applying colour to pre printed blind embossed samples. This workshop would suit those new to lino cutting, or if you are a more experienced printmaker, it will be an interesting way of developing your ideas and images. The workshop will include most materials and use of equipment, refreshments served throughout the day; runs from 10 - 4pm. |
